Shower the people you love with love

show them the way you feel.

Today I learned that a friend who had gone in for surgery didn’t make it out.

Of course that is always your biggest fear pre surgery, that you won’t make it out.

he didn’t.

His body is on life support and his brain is not functioning, so family and friends are gathered around this big hunk of a man saying their goodbyes.

Having recently had surgery I can easily imagine how this is affecting everyone around him

life is so fucking short

in the words of James Taylor

shower the people you love with love

show them the way that you feel.

stay in the love darlings

the rest is just not worth it

Coming Out Of The Dark….

I know, I do use a LOT of song titles in my blog headings..Is because I’m a musician. I’ve made my living throughout my life from music and have been a sucessful singer for 45 years.

Wow, even just seeing that makes me say wait…what?? wow 45 years…go me!!

Last year I switched to a plant based diet. I started this business and blog. I feel amazing.

I had a spinal injury which no amount of plant foods, yoga or pilates could fix. The only way it could be fixed is with surgery.

Drs say to you…It’s just “keyhole surgery” its not a very invasive process. WOW…really?

2 hours under anaesthsia, heavy grade antibiotics delivered via IV, anticoagulants, oxycondone, panadol, anti inflammatories….yikes….

17 days later and I feel like I’m just waking up from a dream. I told them at hospital that I was a vegan and thankfully after the Surgery I didn’t really want to eat, the first meal served to me looked like something the cat ate and then threw up onto a plate.IMG_0778_2mmm,mmm canned creamed corn served on white bread that’d been toasted about 2 years ago. GROSS!!!!!!

fortunately I’d taken some plant based milk and some nuts and fruit with me and so made my first meal, LSA ,fruit and soy milk..had a picture, accidentally deleted it,oops

this was lunch…nutmeat directly out of a chilled can and sliced..the veggies were however, fresh and that’s what I ate, leaving the grey food to slowly die ..again.

this was dinner..mmm,mmm

seriously the worst food ever.frozen beans, vegetarian sausages and packet potato…nutritious?

so glad I’d taken nuts and fruit with me to hospital.

after release, 2 days later, I came home to wonderful vegan meals that had been prepared by my friends.

why are hospitals serving this muck to people? what is the nutritional value  in any meal served to me? minimal at best.

#grateful for friends meals.

veganspiel: If EVER you need to go into hospital, seriously think about what it is you’re going to have to eat. get friends to bring in salads and fruit. remind them that you’re convalescing at home and will need help.

morning has broken…so has my back, well, sort of.

In the last year I hurt my back…really badly. The day after it happened , my girlfriend broke up with me. Double ouch

Scans, specialists, drugs, more drugs, different drugs, opiates, spinal injection (shudder)…you name it, I’ve had them. I could barely walk, I couldn’t work, was  (and still am ) unable to lift anything. Most people have no idea what I’ve been through. Not my friends and not even my family. I’m pretty good at putting on a brave face. But the drugs and the pain took me into darkness. I have now been diagnosed as having depression.

So I got to this place mentally, where I thought, I can’t just mask this pain, I need to be proactive.

I called up my yogini, Eilleen Hall the most beautiful soul you could ever imagine touching your life, and asked for help. She came to see me three times in one week, and took me through some modified asanas to help me. I have been practicing ashtanga yoga on and off for years, often only in my mind, but knew that this was seriously what I needed.

check out Eilleen’s school here’s yogamoves site.

So through taking lots of turmeric and magnesium as well as practicing yoga 3-4-5 times a week, I’m managing my pain.

Interestingly, one of the first things Eilleen said to me, was I needed to look at my diet. She didn’t know I’d become a Vegan last year, and was very happy with my clean eating, as she had found with several of her clients that once they changed their diet they became healthier.

So, now, after having an MRI, I know my lumbar spine is, well, to put it delicately, fucked up. I’ve fallen on my arse roller skating as a kid and falling off bar stools as an adult. Its caught up with me and now the neurosurgeon wants to do fusing and pinning to my spine.

Turmeric, avocado oil, coconut oil, Omega 3’s whole foods, yoga, pilates, loving and laughter are what is going to heal me.

As you read this, I’m having a little surgery to scrape the bone off my nerve in my lumbar spine. Something no amount of yoga and /or diet could fix.

send me healing energies and light and lets get on with making the world a better place for all living creatures.

Stay in the love.

Two Vegan Events-Two times SOLD OUT

I’m so happy!!

My first two forays into selling my products at two very different vegan events, resulted at both events my products SELLING OUT.

The first event was put on by the Sydney Vegan Club and Films For Change.  Hmmmm… maybe about 300 ppl attended. There were 10 vegan food producers invited to sell and give away samples and I was totally buzzed to have been chosen. There was another cupcake seller there and another cake lady, so that contributed to my nerves. But my nerves weren’t about my product, I know they friggin rock..the nerves were about the look of the stall…would it look professional enough??  However,I was totally buzzed and excited to set up my first ever market stall. I think in almost 50 years of performing and experiencing nerves, this was a feeling I’d kind of forgotten about. It was so exciting and the entire look of my stall couldn’t have happened without the input from my graphic designer and friend Donna Gough, check out her website here She’s amazing.

there is that rack!!

My next gig was at The Sydney Vegan Festival. A huge festival with with over 1000 ppl expected to attend. Book the kitchen, get a kitchen hand, start planning and baking. Drive to woop woop to buy a sneeze guard (that perspex thing to protect your food from peoples fingers, germs etc)…buy stock, worry if I’d have enough. blah blah blah… I was competing with businesses that have been going for quite some time. I have to tell ya, it’s fucking nerve wracking!!

Then to my utter horror, the organiser of the festival, put me in a different section to other food stalls, as I hadn’t brought a gazebo. O.M.G. I was mortified…however, one has to keep telling yourself, everything works in divine right order, everything will be fine. And it was.Phew!

so we set up and the stall looked even better this time.IMG_0735

And there were constant sales all day.

I was so so happy and so proud of my friends who have helped me to get this venture off the ground. One of my dearest friends Suzanne Banks has helped me with cooking and setting up too. She is an amazing aromatherapist and has just launched her own book. check it out here

Hard work does pay off, but it takes people believing in you and supporting you, that really gives you drive to make it work.

I’ve had AMAZING feedback and am now starting to deliver to cafes and restaurants.

The market venture will be on hold for a month or so as I have to have some surgery, but watch out world..That Vegan Lady is on her way.

as Yazz sang…the Only Way Is Up…Baby…
